Information

Dear Contestant,

Thank you for attending the Bishop Mule Days Celebration. Mule Days would like you to know that protecting the health of your animals at this event is of the utmost importance. In conjunction with recent animal health and bio-security guidelines established by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDAF) and California State University Davis (CSU Davis); Mule Days would like to promote and support participants in safe (bio-security) practices. Our goal is to minimize the risk of disease or serious illness occurring at Mule Days and we hope that any information we provide will not only assist you at Mule Days, but at any equestrian event that you may be participating at in the future.

• Prior to travel have your animal(s) completely vaccinated and health documents in order.

• Please monitor your mule/donkey during travel for signs of illness or fever and at check-in let the Mule Days volunteer know the health status of your animal(s).

• Limit mule/donkey to mule/donkey contact as well as human to mule/donkey contact.

• Avoid sharing equipment: tack, wipes, water buckets, brushes, etc.

• Avoid use of communal water troughs.

• Avoid submerging water hoses in water buckets.

• Avoid tying your mule/donkey to fences or gates on the fairgrounds.

• Monitor the wellness of your mule/donkey throughout the event.

• If your mule/donkey has an illness or fever please report it to the Show Office.

• You should thoroughly clean and disinfect all equipment before use at home.

• You should isolate and monitor all animals upon return home.

• Dogs are allowed on leash except in the barn/stalls and vendors/food court areas.

BIOSECURITY COLOR CODES-The Green/Yellow/Red color code system was established by CDAF/CSU Davis to provide participants with the appropriate precautionary level based on any reported serious equestrian health issues in California and other reporting states. Green: No known threats; Yellow: Potential or known disease outbreak (non-local); Red: Potential or known disease out-break at the Mule Days event. The appropriate color code will be posted daily at the show office.

In the unlikely event of an emergency or infectious disease incident, all participants, mules, donkeys and horses need to remain at the fairgrounds until Mule Days Management provides a clearance for departure from the premises. In the event that movement restrictions are put in place, each owner would be responsible for the care and maintenance of their mule, donkey or horse on the premises.

We appreciate your willingness to assist Mule Days in providing a safe environment for you and your animals. If you have concerns or questions, please ask at the show office to speak with the Barns & Stalls Chairman.
