Every once in a great while, there are cowboy legends who bring a little western magic to the world. To kick off the 50th Bishop Mule Days Celebration, one such cowboy legend is set to captivate the heart of the world’s greatest mule show.

Sourdough Slim, one of the last of the vaudeville cowboys, will be serenading the Opening Night Supper for Mule Days 2019. With his Will Rogers style cowboy tunes, accordion strumming talent and award winning yodeling, Slim’s style is notoriously lively and fun.

Slim, also known as Rick Crowder, is iconic among cowboy entertainers. He grew up on a cattle ranch in the Sierra foothills, and started performing in the 1970s. He gained national recognition in 1988 for his whimsical, comedic performances. His mix of pre-World War II jazz, country blues and cowboy classics has taken him all over the country. During his well-traveled adventures, he has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Carnegie Hall in New York City, and countless others. A born comedian, Slim’s shows connect with cowboy music lovers of all ages.

While he’s known for his accordion playing and yodeling, Slim has an impressive mastery of many instruments, including harmonica, guitar, and baritone ukulele – all of which he uses to spice up his timeless tunes.

The Opening Night Supper has become a much loved tradition, marking the official kick-off for Mule Days every year. For the 2019 celebration, the supper will take place on Wednesday, May 22 in the Charles Brown Auditorium. A mouth-watering, western-style dinner will be cooked up by Cowgirl Catering of Bishop. The crew will be cooking up prime rib, chicken, salad and delectable deserts, along with some delicious sides.

For the first time ever, tickets to this one-of-a-kind supper are available right now and are selling fast. To purchase tickets, call the Mule Days office at (760) 872-4263.
